EVAN PURNEY

Born and raised in New Brunswick, Canada. Evan moved to Dartmouth in 2019 and fell in love with its charm as well as its grit. In 2021, Evan began shooting 35mm film as a COVID hobby and became increasingly obsessed. He spent the next two years only shooting film, exploring and experimenting with each step of the process.

From late 2023 to present, Evan has focused more on digital photography; however, he still embraces the DIY attitude that got him interested in photography in the first place.

Youth, impulsiveness, and the beauty of aging and decay are central themes in Evan's work. He blends simplicity with experimental techniques including the physical manipulation and destruction of photographic film, alterations in film development processes, and digital manipulation of raw and compressed image data.
